the man with the patchwork heart:
cody disappeared in the middle of the night. it wasn’t like it was unexpected. he told sarah he was leaving, and sarah told their father. and his bags had been packed for weeks.
it was easier this way. he didn’t say goodbye, and no one would miss him and he would miss no one. he just slid through the front door, and then past all those black piles where he spent the last five years.
one of the blue angels was reading a book and he didn’t even look up.
