Last Day
Today is my last day at Patch.
It’s been a crazy run: working long hours to get Patch launched, arguing over the home page, trips to Patch towns (and in one case, meeting the Chief of Police of one of them) and awesome outings throughout. The result of all our hard work is this awesome platform that’s backing one of the most impressive journalism and directory organizations of our time.
I believe we were able to build some of the greatest features on the web: an incredible photo and video upload and management process, as well as a great way for users to view them; a great mobile site, that represents one of the most integrated, and fully featured mobile sites on the web; our beautiful maps and the full stack behind them. This is just a few of the awesome things we built, that if you ask me about it, I’ll be happy to brag about some more.
But after two years, it’s time for me to move on.
I’m going to be moving to a great startup in the city, called Kickstarter. It’s a funding platform for artists and creators who have small projects that just need a financial bump to get started or finished. It’s an idea that I’ve been thinking about since I was in high school: if you can create a film/cd/book on your laptop, if you can promote it with a Twitter or Tumblr account that’s free, why can’t you fund it on your own? It’s time that we took creation back. We can do all of this ourselves.
I’m excited for this new chunk of my career, and I’m excited to see what Patch does next, and I hope to see them in my town soon.
